Nestled in the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Materuni Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that offers a perfect escape into nature. This stunning single-tier cascade plunges from a height of 80 meters, creating a mesmerizing spectacle as the water crashes into a crystal-clear pool below. The waterfall is fed by natural springs originating from the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, making it a vital part of the region’s ecosystem. The surrounding area is a paradise of vibrant vegetation, with banana, avocado and coffee plantations adding to the scenic beauty. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool waters, hike through the picturesque trails, or simply relax and soak in the serene atmosphere. And if the skies are clear, you may even glimpse the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro on your journey to or from the falls.

Located just a short distance from the waterfall, is Materuni Village, home to the Chagga people. The Chagga are one of Tanzania’s most prominent ethnic groups, known for their rich cultural heritage and deep connection to Mount Kilimanjaro, which they consider sacred. For centuries, the Chagga have lived on the fertile slopes of the mountain, cultivating crops like coffee, bananas, and maize. They are renowned for their unique method of producing coffee, which involves roasting, grinding, and brewing the beans in a ceremonial process that has been passed down through generations.
